ARMA 3 Laws of War is one of the best DLC expansion packs for ARMA 3. Out of all the content I have played for ARMA 3, I would have to say that Laws of War is the one that really did stick with me for quite a while after I played it. There is more than enough content here to make this a worthwhile add on for ARMA 3.
The IDAP
There is a brand-new faction in the world of ARMA and that is the IDAP which stands for International Development & Aid Project. What I really like about this faction is that it is not a faction that is just all about shooting the other soldiers. This is a humanitarian kind of faction that is there to take care of the people who are casualties of war first and foremost.
A New Story
The campaign that is included with ARMA 3 Laws of War is being referred to as a mini-campaign as it is rather short. I think saying it is short is a bit harsh as it packs quite a punch and certainly left an impression on me. The idea of the campaign is that you are Nathan MacDade who is an explosives specialist for the IDAP who finds and deactivates landmines. What I liked about the story is how it jumped from perspective to perspective and really there is not a clear cut good or bad side.
While the story really struck a chord with me and like I said stuck with me for a while after. I can also see the lack of a clear good vs bad thing being an issue for some who want a more straightforward kind of story.
What Else New Is Included?
There is a nice selection of vehicles for you to use with this DLC. Each of the previous factions gets a new vehicle and the IDAP faction gets four brand new vehicles to use. There is a really fun time trial mode which makes use of the van and drone that are part of the DLC. There is also a ton of new gear, quality of life improvements and so on that is part of this pack.
It may not seem like the most feature-packed expansion, but it is one that I really do like. The IDAP is a fantastic faction and one that looks at war from a different perspective. Also, the new story that is included is one that I really did enjoy. It actually feels like it is from the heart and left me asking myself a ton of questions.
As far as DLC packs go I feel that ARMA 3 Laws of War is pretty damn good. It may seem a little light on content overall. However, I really do think that the new faction and that short story more than make this worthwhile playing through. I think it goes without saying that if you like ARMA 3, you will like this.
Final Score: 8/10
Pros:
- I loved the story that they told here
- The new faction is very interesting
- I enjoyed the new vehicles, especially that new drone
- Defusing bombs is fun Plenty of quality of life fixes
Cons:
- While I loved the story, some might not like it
- Could have had more new stuff overall
Overall rating: 8
